KIRKSVILLE R-III SCHOOL DISTRICT
POSITION TITLE:
Food Service Director
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED
Bachelor's Degree and be a Missouri Licensed Dietitian
JOB GOALS
The food service director is responsible for all aspects of the food service program in the district. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare menus that meet local, state and federal standards
  • Hire and evaluate food service staff
  • Audit and approve employee time sheets
  • Order food, supplies and equipment
  • Oversee the food bid and USDA Commodity procurement process
  • Oversee preparation and service of meals and snacks
  • Implement a food safety program that is compliant with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards and U.S. Department of Agriculture guidance
  • Facilitate required staff training
  • Process free and reduced lunch applications and ensure verification compliance
  • Assist building principals in administering the district's free and reduced lunch program
  • Establish procedures for student and staff charges including limits on charges, substitute meals and collection strategies
  • Cater for staff meetings, extra-curricular events, school board meetings and other district events as needed
  • Oversee food bank/Buddy Backpack Program
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
The Food Service Director has supervisory responsibility for all cooks, cafeteria workers and kitchen managers or head cooks.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance manuals
  • Write routine reports and correspondence
  • Speak effectively before groups of employees
  • Read and understand bid submissions, contracts, invoices and packing slips
  • Apply basic algebraic and geometrical skills
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area circumference and volume
  • Solve problems through the use of alternative methods or materials
  • Analyze situations and provide verbal and written instruction
  • Competence in inventory control, purchasing and budget software
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Wage and work calendar to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Other duties as assigned. This does not preclude the assignment of additional or supplemental duties. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment as needed to reflect such duties.
  • Supervises classroom, students, aides, volunteers, and areas as assigned.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
  • Duties performed typically in district settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned areas.
  • Physical demands can include but are not limited to: Exerts up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects including equipment such as audio-visual.
  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and other limited physical activities are required.
  • Mental demands can include but are not limited to: Comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, and synthesizing.
