The DMD will work with the Program Secretary to implement, strengthen, and coordinate all the music ministry programs within the Western PA Division ensuring that these ministries are of the highest standard artistically, musically, and spiritually. The DMD will need to become intimately aware of every Corps in the region with respect to the music ministry programs as well as its current and/or potential leaders. Must be a Salvationist who has committed to a local Corps through being an active Soldier, upholding high morals as they will be looked at by the territory and division as a role model. Results and effectiveness in this position will be gauged by the growth of music ministry programs at the Corps, the advancement in the regional music ministry groups, and the effectiveness of the strengthening of music ministry programs throughout the Western PA Division.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Work hard to promote the establishment of active music ministry programs, youth, and adult, in every Corps in the Western PA Division.
  • Create music ministry programs that are aligned with our mission, Christ centered, and leading program participants to a deeper relationship with Christ.
  • Assume leadership of the Divisional Music Commission. Ensuring that proper Minutes are taken and distributed in a timely manner and follow through on all Commission business.
  • Recruit, train, and provide leadership to a Divisional Worship Team.
  • Identify, develop, and assist leaders for brass, voice, piano, and guitar programs at the Corps level through the Divisional Music Commission and other available means.
  • Develop or identify a music curriculum for brass, voice, piano, and guitar to be used at the Corps level.
  • Assist Corps Officers and other leaders in the Division finding resources for music ministry programs including funding, instruments, program resources, leaders, and participants.
  • Work with Divisional Leaders to schedule and provide leadership to a seasonal monthly Divisional Music and Creative Arts gathering (DMA), ensuring that all groups have an opportunity for spiritual development.
  • Serve as the Leader for the Western PA Divisional Brass Band and Chorus, and work to see that members grow in Christ and that the band grow in numbers and in musical ability .
  • Provide leadership and direction for any special music ministry program, event, or rally requested by Divisional Headquarters (including but not limited to Youth Councils, Family Camp, retreats, Christmas ensembles, etc.).
  • Meet frequently with the Program Secretary to review goals, strategies and accomplishments.
  • Provide oversight to the WPA Music and Arts Social Media Accounts.
  • Assist in the planning and oversight of the Beaver County Music School, JAM, and the Greater Pittsburgh Music School.
  • Organize, promote, and manage trips for music ministry groups inside and outside of the Western PA Division.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of divisional instruments. Obtain copies of Corps instrumental inventories.
  • Work in conjunction with the Youth Secretaries and Program Department staff to plan and execute the Divisional Music and Arts Camp, School of Rock, and Conservatories.
  • Be prepared to assume leadership of public gatherings, camp meetings, and Sunday services providing devotional and decision-making opportunities.
  • Promote and conduct the Western PA Divisional Star Search event.
  • Conduct the business of the Divisional Music Department (email, credit card entries into smartdata) and attend conferences and other events as requested and approved by the Divisional Program Secretary and Divisional Leadership in an efficient and careful manner, keeping in mind budgetary and other limitations.
  • Support Divisional and Territorial events as requested, attend/participate at Star Lake Music Camp as requested, and work with the Program Secretary to maintain current and accurate records on the Divisional Calendar.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in music education or related field or equivalent experience
  • Committed, mature Christian that will uphold The Salvation Army's mission statement
  • Minimum of five years prior experience working in the music field supervision experience
  • Must have a driver's license and be able to clear The Salvation Army's insurance, in order to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
  • Must wear a uniform and attend a Corps for worship weekly.
  • Must be clear of any state/federal violations/abuse of children All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and Fingerprint based federal criminal history.
PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army's KeepSAfe training required.
Pay:
$50,000.00 - $56,000.00 per year
