Nesconset, NY About Paws of War Paws of War is a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing, training, and pairing animals with Veterans, First Responders, Active Military Members, and their families. Our mission is to provide support, companionship, and life-changing service dogs to those who have served our country and communities. Position Overview Paws of War is seeking an experienced and passionate Dog Trainer to join our growing team. This role will involve working with both pet obedience clients and individuals enrolled in our service dog training program. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, patient, and committed to helping both dogs and handlers succeed. Key Responsibilities Lead group obedience training classes weekly Assist in training and development of service dogs and service dog candidates Educate clients on proper handling techniques, behavior modification, and training consistency Evaluate dogs for temperament, behavior, and service dog potential Maintain a safe, positive, and productive training environment Work collaboratively with program staff to support client success and program growth Track progress and provide feedback to clients and team members Qualifications Prior professional dog training experience required Strong understanding of canine behavior, obedience training, and behavior modification Experience with service dog training preferred Ability to work with a variety of breeds, temperaments, and handler skill levels Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Patient, reliable, and team-oriented Ability to manage group classes and maintain structure Schedule Flexible scheduling available Part-time and full-time positions offered Availability for evenings and/or weekends may be required based on class schedules What We Offer Opportunity to be part of a mission-driven organization making a real impact Supportive and collaborative team environment Growth opportunities within a developing program The chance to work with both family pets and future service dogs How to Apply Please submit your resume and a brief summary of your training experience and background to sagea@pawsofwar.org.
