Job Description

Position Summary The Early Head Start (EHS) and/or Infant/Toddler Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 0-3. The teacher promotes school readiness by supporting cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development while building strong partnerships with families. Positions in several locations are available. Early Head Start positions are 10-month contract positions. For 2026-2027 positions summer training will be required. Key Responsibilities
  • Child Development & Curriculum Implementation Plan and implement individualized, developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with EHS/Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (ELOF). Use observation and assessment tools (e.g., Teaching Strategies GOLD) to track child progress. Support language, social-emotional, and motor development through responsive caregiving.
  • Health, Safety & Supervision Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment. Ensure active supervision of children at all times. Follow all licensing, Head Start Performance Standards, and agency policies.
  • Family Engagement Build respectful, culturally responsive relationships with families. Conduct home visits and parent-teacher conferences. Support families in setting and achieving developmental goals for their child.
  • Screening & Assessment Conduct developmental screenings within required timelines. Participate in Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) processes when applicable. Use data to individualize instruction. Conduct ongoing observations of children's skills and ability aligned to learning outcomes.
  • Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate and timely records (attendance, assessments, incident reports). Ensure compliance with federal, state, and program regulations.
  • Team Collaboration Work collaboratively with co-teachers, family service workers, and specialists.
Participate in staff meetings, training, and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications Minimum:
CDA (Infant/Toddler) or Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (per Head Start requirements).
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in ECE or related field. Experience working with infants and toddlers in a group setting. Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards preferred.
