FTE Work Schedule:
Monday Friday 8-hour shifts scheduled between 0630 1530 or 0730 1630, including a one-hour uncompensated lunch break, not to exceed 40 scheduled hours per week. Includes rotating on-call coverage requirements of approximately 1,500 hours annually and overage support requirements ranging from 75 100 hours per FTE annually. Contract workers must maintain a 30-minute response time to the facility during on-call periods and may be required to work holiday on-call coverage and report in person to the MTF when necessary.
Qualifications:
Education:
Completion of an accredited cardiopulmonary laboratory specialist course. Must possess a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential from CCI or equivalent credential (RDCS, RCCS, or ACS). Candidates without an RCS credential must obtain it within six months of hire.
Experience:
Minimum 12 months of experience within the last 18 months. Experience performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to care for and treat cardiopulmonary laboratory patients. Experience performing diagnostic trans- thoracic echocardiograms, trans-esophageal echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, contrast studies, bubble studies, electrocardiograms, graded exercise tests and Holter monitor procedures.
License/Certification:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Echocardiogram Technologist as required by the Task Order. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
Responsibilities:
Perform cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures including electrocardiograms, exercise stress testing, ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring, and echocardiographic examinations. Assess cardiac structures and blood flow utilizing 2-D echocardiography, M-mode echocardiography, Doppler imaging, and color flow imaging techniques. Assist physicians during transesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography, radionuclide studies, and thallium procedures. Prepare patients for cardiopulmonary diagnostic testing and explain procedures to patients. Obtain and document patient medical history, vital signs, and diagnostic findings. Monitor patient status during procedures and recognize adverse signs and symptoms requiring intervention. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and emergency response activities when required. Establish and maintain intravascular access within scope of practice. Assist with cardiac catheterization and invasive cardiovascular procedures when assigned. Operate, calibrate, clean, disinfect, and maintain cardiopulmonary diagnostic equipment according to manufacturer specifications. Maintain equipment readiness, preventive maintenance schedules, and operational safety inspections. Adhere to infection control, universal precautions, patient safety, and security procedures. Schedule patients for evaluations, procedures, and treatments and maintain associated records and reports. Prepare records and documentation utilizing approved medical information systems and electronic health record platforms. Maintain liaison with physicians, research personnel, and healthcare staff regarding echocardiography procedures, equipment, and patient care coordination. Maintain professional communication with patients, providers, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Provide after-hours on-call coverage and report to the MTF within established response timelines when required.
