Job Description
Responsible for developing, writing and shaping high-impact stories that advance Tulane University's reputation and institutional priorities. Reporting to the Executive Director of Editorial, this position f ocuses on writing, editing and maintaining high-quality content for Tulane Today, The Tulanian and related platforms. The Assistant Director also collaborates with News & Media Relations, social media and campus communicators to ensure consistent storytelling across university channels and external media coverage. This role provides strategic editorial support and serves as a backup to the Assistant Editorial Director for Tulane Today production when needed.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English or related field. 5-7 years of professional writing and editing experience. Experience working in a fast-paced news or media environment. Experience working with digital project management tools.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in higher education communications. Familiarity with content management systems such as Drupal. Familiarity with email publishing platforms. Exceptional research, writing and editing skills. Strong news judgment and understanding of reputation-driven storytelling. Expert knowledge of Associated Press style. Ability to conceptualize and develop high-impact stories. Strong editorial coaching and feedback skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Strong collaboration skills across communications disciplines. Working knowledge of digital publishing platforms and analytics tools.
