Job Description

Summary Assist the Education and Development Specialist in the day-to-day operations and coordination of educational and development programs within the Day Services Program. Essential Functions
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement services to meet the needs of clients and achieve departmental goals.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate Learning for Life Program and additional educational programs and events.
  • Sourcing and creating educational materials.
  • Communicate with team members regarding information on activities and events.
  • Training and consulting with staff on best practices for implementing education and learning techniques.
  • Assist with staff training.
  • Use staff and client input and independent research to develop and oversee activity schedule.
  • Promote community inclusion and develop community partnerships.
  • Understand and implement individual service plans and develop programs to assist clients in achieving outcomes.
  • Support DSPs in classrooms, including assisting with client personal care.
  • Teach and demonstrate behavior management techniques.
  • Assist with orientation of new clients.
  • Coordinate transportation as needed.
  • Provide for the safety and health of the staff and clients.
  • Comply with and enforce applicable licensing and regulatory requirements, laws, work rules, accreditation standards and O.H. policies and procedures.
  • Be certified in medication administration and pass medications as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to analyze problems, develop solutions, and use independent judgment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office.
Supervisory Responsibility Direct and coordinate the work of Case Managers, DSPs and staff in day programs as necessary. Assist with staff training. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee works mostly in an office environment that is quiet to moderately loud, depending on the work area. Some local, county, or state travel may be required, including overnight stays. Employee is required to sit, use hands, stand, stoop, walk, talk, and listen while performing duties. General office equipment including personal computers, scanners, copiers, faxes, desk- and smartphones, and software programs. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing/vision. Must be able to physically assist mobility-impaired individuals. Required Education and Experience
  • Become registered as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) within three months.
  • QIDP Qualification Required.
