Department Name Upward Bound Position Summary Instructors for Upward Bound provide specialized intensive instruction in core curricular academic areas necessary for secondary and post-secondary success of Upward Bound participants.
Specifically:
  • Provide 4 weeks of in-person instruction in the applicable subject area. (One week of the summer term will be virtual for students; instructors will not meet that week. Finalized instruction dates TBD.)
  • Classes will meet M-F with a duration of 1 hour and 5 minutes in blocks beginning at 8:30 AM and ending at 2:15 PM (8:30-9:35, 9:45-10:50, 11:00-12:05, 1:10-2:15). The course schedule is assigned around instructor availability as may be accommodated best. Elective courses meet 2:25-3:30.
  • Determine and submit supply list requests.
  • Prepare and submit syllabus, weekly lesson plans, weekly student progress reports, and assign final grades. Instructors have professional license to use their content expertise in building curriculum and presenting content most advantageous in preparing students for high school courses enrolled for fall.
  • Report to the Coordinator. Job Duties and Responsibilities Instruct participants in relevant content area; submit curriculum content outline of material covered in each instructional session or lab; maintain attendance logs for submission to Coordinator; evaluate and document participant progress by utilizing pre
  • and post-tests or other evaluative measures for submission to Coordinator; serve as mentor to participants; serve on curriculum development team when requested; and, provide evaluation of participants, activities, and services to Upward Bound staff. Skills Considered Essential for Success

Required Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree in appropriate curriculum area required; Master's preferred. Preference given for: Minimum 3 years' prior successful teaching experience with high school or college students; prior successful experience working with low-income, first-generation youth and/or ethnically and racially diverse student populations; and, background similar to target population.
