DESCRIPTION:
The GED, HiSET instructor will help adult students to pass the 2014 GED or the HiSET examinations, English/Bilingual. The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
  • Provide instruction that develops academic skills for passing the 2014 Pearson Vue GED or the HiSET examinations, focusing on the following: Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, Social Studies and English (Writing/Reading); in alignment with Common Core State Standards.
  • Differentiate instruction and use varied instructional modalities: individualized, collaborative student groupings, and whole class instruction.
  • Incorporate online learning and instructional technology in daily instruction.
  • Monitor student progress in accordance to the California Department of Educations' (CDE) Model Standards for Adult Education and ABE Content Standards, and the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education.
  • Provide quality assurance and guidance in the use of CDE approved standardized assessments; administer the Official GED and HiSET Practice Tests.
  • Motivate and support students in a culturally responsive manner.
  • Participate in a weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) with HSE colleagues toward improving student outcomes, curriculum and program development.
  • Collaborate with the location in referring GED/HiSET students to training, employment and support services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet the following minimum qualifications:
  • Possess a valid non-emergency California Teaching credential authorizing instruction in GED subjects.
  • Have at least 3 years' teaching experience with all GED/HiSET subject areas in a classroom setting, including student skills assessment and differentiated instruction.
  • Possess strength and experience in basic math instruction and instructional technology.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to self-start, problem-solve and be the on-site GED/HiSET expert.
  • Spanish bilingual preferred.
  • Able to work with teaching colleagues, Adult Education administration, on-site partners in a collaborative and productive manner.
