Nonprofit Overview Formerly known as the Cerebral Palsy Center for the Bay Area, Ability Now Bay Area (ANBA) offers adults with developmental and physical disabilities the most comprehensive and cutting-edge services available. Our unique programs include education, communication, computer literacy, vocational training, wellness, and community integration. We promote self-advocacy, independent living skills, and leisure skills, which enhance our participants' ability to live more independent and fulfilled lives. Position Summary Instructor is a key role at ANBA. We strive to create a vibrant and joyful classroom experience where our participants have the opportunity to learn, participate and provide regular feedback. Instructors are Responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of educational classes as well as directly advising participants and supporting their goals. This role is ¾ to full time depending on need. Employees are eligible for benefits at ¾ time employment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Regular use of technology platforms including Zoom, Payroll Systems, StoriiCare, Emails, etc. Plan, write, and coordinate daily lesson plans that detail the materials, resources, and activities for classroom instruction covering one week for all assigned courses Direct & guide Assistant Instructors and Classroom Aides Provide one-on-one guidance to develop business, financial, and benefits plans; support sales, customer communication, shipping, and event preparation while tracking participant progress and goals. Maintain accurate business records, safeguard accounts and funds, and ensure organized, secure workspaces and systems. Oversee vending operations including machine servicing, inventory, deposits, repairs, and tax reporting; transport supplies/participants and develop and teach vending curriculum. Provide individual and group instruction Act as an advisor for assigned participants Ensure and facilitate participant engagement in the classroom 2 Assist with special events, including planning and coordination Contribute to and write departmental policies and procedures Create individual participant objectives based on long-range Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Person-Centered Plans (PCP) goals and assessments. Create a Benchmark for participant goals Track current program objectives for all assigned participants and record comments in program participant files Evaluate the effectiveness of program activities and adjust the program accordingly Assist program participants with personal needs (i.e. pushing wheelchairs, assisting with eating, and personal care) as needed Attend & contribute to curriculum meetings. Collaborate with staff on curriculum ideas Attend regular and assigned training Changes can occur in essential tasks due to changes in programs, such as those mandated by law, or as a condition for further funding by a grant sponsor or changes in state or federal law. Any change in essential tasks to be performed will be by written notice and will be an essential task or requirement only after such notice has been given. Additional Job Requirements Transportation support- assist participants in getting to and on buses Support other departments as necessary Assist with walking or pushing participants to classes Comply with all Ability Now Bay Area policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook Check StoriiCare and email daily, and respond to emails promptly Perform other duties as assigned Education and Experience Current CPR and First Aid certificates are required. Must be able to communicate readily and effectively in English, orally and in writing. Communication and Reading Comprehension Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents and to utilize electronic devices for tasks including timekeeping and agency communication. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to adapt to varied and changing circumstances. 3 Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to safely perform all physical and manual movements needed for job functions.
