What they do
An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.

Qualifications Education and Experience:
Education:
- Masters Degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in education or closely related field is desirable but not required.
Experience:
- At least (1) year experience as a credentialed professional in a school district is required.
- A background or experience in the use of restorative practices in educational settings is preferred.
- A background or experience in implementing the YouthTruth survey in an educational setting is preferred.
- A background or experience in delivering and/or receiving transformational coaching is preferred.
Credentials:
- A valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential with the School Counseling specialization is required.
