Qualifications Credential Requirement:
Must have a valid CTE teaching credential: Health Science and Medical Technology.

Certification/Licensure:
In accordance with California state law, the instructor must hold a current, valid California license or certification as one of the following:
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT I or CPT II)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Licensed Physician and Surgeon (MD or DO)
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (or person licensed under Chapter 3 of the CA Business and Professions Code)
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP)
Required Experience:
  • If qualifying as a CPT I or CPT II, a minimum of three (3) years of on-the-job experience in the previous five (5) years is mandated by the state.
  • If qualifying as an RCP, a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the previous five (5) years is mandated by the state. Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience in a CDPH-approved phlebotomy training program, particularly with diverse student populations.
  • Strong ability to adapt instruction to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Recent and active industry contact and involvement (e.g., participating in job fairs, presentations, or maintaining clinical externship partnerships).
