An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
The Adult Education Center in Hartford will operate its program from August 2026 through June 2027. Teachers provide classroom instruction in the Adult Education Center and/or satellite sites Classes are offered in ESL and GED/ABE (English), ABE/GED (Spanish), NEDP and Citizenship Hours range between 4 - 15 hours per week, Monday through Friday (a few classes meet on Saturday and/or Sunday at satellite locations). Classes meet at various locations.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES OF IDEAL CANDIDATE
Must possess and maintain appropriate Connecticut Certification or Adult Education Endorsement Experience with ABE, GED, NEDP, ESL and Citizenship programs
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Part-time hourly rate of $43 in accordance with the Hartford Public School System salary schedule. No paid holidays, vacation or paid sick leave during this scheduled program period.
UNION AFFILIATION
Hartford Federation of Teachers (HFT).
