This position provides workforce-focused instruction to English as a Second Language (ESL) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) learners through interactive workshops that integrate workplace communication, digital literacy, job readiness, and employability skills. The Workforce Development Instructor will create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student confidence, engagement, and measurable learning gains. Working collaboratively with staff, volunteer tutors, and community partners, the instructor will help learners develop the knowledge and skills needed to achieve their educational and career goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan and facilitate workforce development workshops for adult ESL and ABE learners. Deliver instruction in workplace communication, professionalism, digital literacy, career exploration, job applications, interviewing skills, and workplace success strategies. Implement curriculum aligned with Connecticut Adult Education Standards, CASAS competencies, and workforce readiness frameworks. Utilize student assessment data, including CASAS results, to guide instruction, establish learning goals, and address individual learner needs. Create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that encourages participation, confidence, and student persistence. Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies to support skill development and measurable learning gains. Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and participant records in accordance with program, state, and grant requirements. Coordinate guest speakers, employer presentations, mock interviews, and other workforce-related activities as appropriate. Collaborate with LVGW staff, volunteer tutors, and community partners to support participant success and career pathway development. Ensure compliance with organizational policies, Connecticut Adult Education requirements, and grant reporting standards. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, Adult Education, ESL/ESOL, Human Services, Social Work, Workforce Development, or a related field. Experience teaching adult learners, particularly English as a Second Language (ESL) and/or Adult Basic Education (ABE) students. Knowledge of adult learning principles, workforce readiness instruction, and employability skills development. Strong classroom management, lesson planning, and instructional skills. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds. Proficiency with computers, digital learning platforms, and standard office software. Preferred Qualifications Connecticut Adult Education endorsement, TESOL/ESOL certification, or equivalent credential. Experience working in adult education, workforce development, community-based programs, or career services. Familiarity with CASAS assessments, Connecticut Adult Education Standards, and workforce readiness frameworks. Experience teaching digital literacy, career readiness, or employment-focused curriculum. Bilingual skills are a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to engage and motivate adult learners from diverse backgrounds. Strong facilitation and presentation skills. Ability to adapt instruction to varying English proficiency and educational levels. Knowledge of workforce trends, career pathways, and local employment resources. Commitment to creating a respectful, inclusive, and learner-centered environment. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team. Availability 4-6 hours per week. Must be available to work a flexible schedule that includes both daytime and evening hours, with classes and program activities scheduled one to two days per week based on program needs. This is a grant-funded position and is contingent upon the continued availability of grant funding.
