THIS ROLE

The Tennis Program Instructor is an entry level court position that teaches basic tennis fundamentals to youth and adult participants through structured, engaging programming. This role is ideal for an instructor who is building their professional experience on the court and has the potential to grow into a more advanced instructional position. This is a part time, non exempt hourly role based at Crandon Park Tennis Center. The Instructor works within established USTA Florida program guidelines and supports the broader facility programming team across clinics, camps, events, and leagues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Tennis Instruction Delivers youth and adult tennis instruction through red, orange, and green ball curriculum following USTA Florida standards and guidelines. Teaches basic tennis fundamentals and communication skills appropriate to participant skill level; instruction does not require complex technical techniques. Creates a welcoming, safe, and inclusive learning environment for all participants. Program Support Assists in clinics, regular programming, camps, mixers, specialty events, and Junior Team Tennis sessions. Supports Love to Learn, Special Olympics tennis, and other community programming as assigned. Provides support for player development activities and demonstrates commitment to further professional certification. Facility and Equipment Ensures courts are ready for play, including equipment setup, necessary maintenance checks, and keeping courts in working order. Reports facility issues to the site manager or director as appropriate. Compliance and Communication Upholds USTA Florida and facility safety rules and compliance requirements. Notifies the appropriate manager of any concerns, incidents, or hazards. Provides structured feedback to participants after sessions and attends job related development workshops as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required 3 to 5 years of tennis playing experience; instructional experience preferred. Certification from a recognized industry body preferred (RSPA, PTR, or equivalent). Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Excel and Microsoft 365. Ability to read and write English fluently; bilingual in Spanish a plus. Professional and positive attitude with a demonstrated commitment to delivering a quality participant experience. Ability to clear USTA Safe Play screening and Florida background check prior to working with participants. Ability to perform strenuous physical activity on court as required by the role. Preferred Familiarity with USTA Florida programming structures, facilities, and community networks. Experience with point of sale or facility management software. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills. Verbal and written communication skills with advanced knowledge of the game of tennis.

ADAPTIVE COACHING EXPERIENCE

Highly Preferred for This Opening USTA Florida is actively seeking candidates with a background in adaptive and inclusive tennis instruction. Candidates who bring this experience will be given strong preference in the selection process. Experience coaching or facilitating tennis programming for players with autism or other developmental and sensory related needs. Background in Special Olympics tennis, including experience as a Unified partner, coach, or event volunteer. Adaptive coaching certification a plus (examples include Special Olympics Coach certification, Adaptive Tennis Specialist, or equivalent credentialing from PTR, USTA, or a recognized disability focused organization). Demonstrated ability to modify instruction, court setup, and communication style to meet diverse participant needs in a supportive, participant first environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND SCHEDULE

This role is based on site at Crandon Park Tennis Center. Work takes place in an outdoor and facility environment and may include exposure to weather conditions. The position requires physical presence during all program sessions and events, including sustained on court physical activity. The schedule is part time and aligned to program season windows. Session times may include weekends and evenings. Scheduling flexibility is required. This position is not eligible for remote work. Physical demands include sustained court movement, walking, carrying equipment, stooping, kneeling, and occasional lifting. Medium physical demand with occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.
