An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.
Under limited supervision, this position provides instruction to Adult Education and Literacy students. This instructor will provide direct and explicit instruction for assigned classes, keep accurate and timely attendance records, and administer assessments. Classes may include high school equivalency level math, science, social studies, and language arts.

Two years teaching experience preferred, Secondary Education Certification preferred. Ability to instruct students from diverse backgrounds. Assist in enrollment and reporting for online learning program. Assist with completion of State of Iowa Adult Education program metrics in order to meet program goals. Assist with program reporting for State of Iowa Adult Education. Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work. Maintain confidentiality regarding students and colleagues. Ability to organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly. Assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions. Other duties as may be assigned.
