An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.

Job Description

General Function:
Provide general assistance as determined by the department. Student Aide - Adult Educational Development Duties of the
Position:
Greet visitors and provide customer service at the front desk. Answer phone calls and assist callers. Provide information about High School Equivalency (HSE) and English Language Acquisition (ELA) programs. Perform data entry tasks - Sort and distribute mail. File and maintain student records. Keep office supplies organized and stocked. Assist faculty and staff with administrative tasks. Help with organizing AED events. Being bilingual in Spanish is an added advantage.
Education Requirements:
Current enrollment at Harper College with a minimum of six credits per semester (three credits for the summer semester).
Experience Requirements:
Basic keyboarding skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office software, ability to multitask, and preferably some prior office or customer service experience.
Work Schedule:
The part-time schedule is based on the student's availability, requiring availability during the following hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a minimum of 5 hours and a maximum of 20 hours per week.
