An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.

UnclassifiedAdjunct Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:- Responsible for teaching adult education classes using instructional methods geared towards the adult learner in a classroom setting
- Plan lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students which prepare students to pass the high school equivalency tests and/or enhance basic education skills
- Delivers whole group, small group, and individualized instruction to students, using a variety of instructional methods, materials, and techniques
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students
- Assure that students who qualify are pre
- and post-tested as needed using the TABE Assessment as dictated by DRC and Adult Education guidelines
- Keep daily attendance records and progress reports
- Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date records
- Enter all reportable data, according to policy and procedures, into the approved Student Information System
- Participate and manage registration, testing, and scheduling events
- Establish a positive and trusting relationship with students
- Foster student accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and critical thinking skills
- Adhere to regulations set forth regarding confidentiality of student records
- Promote participation of students in all aspects of Adult Education programming
- Maintain clean and professional classroom environment
- Adhere to LDCC's Standards of Practice
- Any other duties as assigned
Required Education:
- An Associate's degree or higher
- Strong communication skills, including both written and oral, with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of personalities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor's degree
- Three (3) years teaching experience Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.
