Immediately Job Description The AEL Teacher will be employed for a 42-46 week position. The salary and the work year will be established annually by the Board of Education.

Position Summary:

To provide instruction to adults in the areas of literacy, high school equivalency and English as a second language.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage class site independently Proctor assessments when needed Create daily lesson plans based on student deficit areas Provide accommodation and differentiated instruction when needed Ability to instruct students in Math, English and Writing at the High School Equivalency level Ability to provide second language acquisition instruction in English; Reading,Writing, Speaking and Listening Manage documentation for the class site, including student hours, testing information and student assignments Instructor will identify and respond to learners individual and group needs, interests and goals when conducting class Instructor will create a physical and interpersonal climate that is conducive to learning by drawing on adult learning theory, knowledge of learners' cultures and interpersonal dynamics Instructor will use technology systems in class and as a management tool Instructor will work variable hours and days Instructor will become familiar with the High School Equivalency Exam and be able to target instruction to meet the students' needs Instructor will be responsible for the retention and progression level of their site to meet all Federal Targets Complete other duties as defined and assigned

Performance, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the AEL Teacher Evaluation.

Qualifications:

Four (4) year degree AEL Teacher/Substitute Certification through DESE Must work flexible hours Must attend 20 hours of Professional Development annually to maintain certification Must participate in a 2-year mentoring program

Salary:

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
