Workforce Development Division​ Adult Education and Workforce Instructor
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE) is a community-based nonproft that aims to inspire, empower, and organize immigrants in life and at work. Founded in 1999, NICE accomplishes this vision via an innovative life and workforce initiative: NICE's Pre-Apprenticeship Program for Life & Work (PreAPLW). The PreAPLW is designed to help immigrant workers enter and succeed in the U.S. labor market by uniquely weaving together professional and personal skills, empowering them to thrive while contributing to
NYC. POSITION SUMMARY
​ The Adult Education and Workforce Instructor empowers students' academic, professional, and personal growth through engaging instruction, guidance, and mentorship. This role delivers both theoretical and hands-on training for adults entering or advancing in the U.S. labor market, including sectors such as construction, cleaning, green jobs, and other service industries. The instructor ensures competency in tech, trade skills, and industry best practices in both classroom and on-site settings, while effectively leveraging student support resources, participating in professional development, and contributing to the division's overall success. Reporting to the Vice President of Development and Workforce, and working closely with the Lead Workforce Development Coordinator and the division's staff. The instructor supports high-quality program delivery, including the NICE Pre-Apprenticeship Program for Life & Work (PreAPLW).​
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Curriculum
  • ​ Teach engaging theoretical and hands-on courses for NICE's Pre-Apprenticeship for Life & Work Program (PreAPLW), aligned with industry standards, for adult learners entering, re-entering, or advancing in the U.S. labor market, including underemployed and non-native English speakers.
  • ​ Develop curriculum and training materials that incorporate technology, interactive activities, real-world applications, and current labor market trends.
  • ​ Create standards-aligned lesson plans, instructional materials, and teaching aids; adapt instruction using blended learning to meet diverse learning styles and literacy levels.

  • ​ Develop technical lesson plans that integrate engaging, practical exercises and blended learning, following NICE Curriculum Guidelines.
  • ​ Collaborate with all divisions to align training across the organization, as well as with job-readiness standards and labor-market trends.

  • ​ Foster a safe, inclusive, and equitable learning environment that empowers students.
  • ​ Assist students with goal setting, career planning, and navigating education or workforce pathways. Program & Administrative Duties
  • ​ Maintain accurate records, data, and case notes in compliance with legal, ethical, and organizational standards.
  • ​ Track daily attendance, submit required paperwork, complete pre-class assignments, and ensure timely post-course reporting in the organization database.
  • ​ Prepare required reports, documentation, and evaluations for program leadership.
  • ​ Participate in program planning, curriculum development, and collaborative initiatives with workforce partners and community organizations.

  • ​ Participate in case conferencing and stay current on labor-market trends, workforce development, and best practices in adult education.
  • ​ Serve as a role model and ambassador for high-quality instruction.
  • ​ Attend meetings, trainings, and professional development; provide input on licensing and certifcation guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • ​ Bachelor's degree in Education, Adult Education, Workforce Development, or a related feld (Master's preferred).
  • ​ 2-3 years of experience in workforce development, vocational training, or teaching required.
  • ​ Hands-on experience and profciency in construction, cleaning, or green jobs preferred.
  • ​ Preferred any industry-specifc certifcations relevant to training subjects; at least one professional certifcation, such as OSHA Certifed Trainer, Total Building Performance Certifcate, or GPRO Fundamentals of Building Green Certifcation preferred (additional certifcations may be required).
  • ​ Knowledge of instructional design, adult learning principles, and curriculum development.
  • ​ Awareness of socio-economic and cultural factors affecting student recruitment, retention, and success, with experience teaching adult learners from diverse and vulnerable populations, including immigrants, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and trauma-impacted students.
  • ​ Ability to create a dynamic, inclusive learning environment that promotes diversity, equity, and student engagement.
  • ​ Experience planning, instructing, assessing, and evaluating courses for adult learners.
  • ​ Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into teaching, including interactive and virtual learning tools.
  • ​ Ability to adapt pedagogy to diverse knowledge levels and respond to evidence-based assessments of student learning.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Schedule:
Monday-Friday 9AM to 5 PM, and must be able to work a varied schedule, including potential evenings and weekends.
