Adult ESL Instructor IRC - International Rescue Committee Remote | New York City, Rai International Junior level Speaks Farsi, Arabic, English, French, Russian, Spanish Apply Summary by Impactpool The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an Adult ESL Instructor to support newly arrived refugees and immigrants in the U.S. by providing free ESL classes. The instructor will teach three classes focusing on everyday English and job readiness skills. Responsibilities include preparing lessons, documenting student progress, and participating in team meetings. The position is part-time, requiring 24 hours per week, and involves both in-person and online teaching.

Job Overview:
In an effort to support newly arrived refugees and immigrants in starting their lives successfully in the U.S., the Adult Education Program provides free ESL classes to adult clients. Classes offered focus on English for everyday life as well as job readiness skills through ESL. The teacher will be responsible for teaching three ESL classes.

24 hours per week
Major Responsibilities:
Prepare for and teach rigorous ESL classes for immigrants, newly arrived refugee and asylee clients , using interactive, learner-centered activities and ESL strategies Document attendance and student progress per funder requirements Follow up with students who miss class to address barriers to attendance Support with intake and registration of new students Process referrals and conduct participant outreach Actively participate in weekly check-ins with the Adult Education Supervisor and team meetings to discuss individual client progress and the best way to provide support as necessary Complete professional development hours as required by program funders Supervise ESL Assistant Interns Test student's English language skills using Best Plus 3.0 or other assessment per funder requirements Complete other tasks as needed to support the
Adult Education Department Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and TESOL certificate highly desirable or 2+ years of experience teaching ESL to adults from culturally diverse backgrounds using culturally responsive strategies Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite Fluency in English language required. Second language proficiency in relevant language highly desirable (including Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, Spanish, Russian or French)
Compensation :

Pay Rate:
$26.50-$27.50/hr). Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
Working Environment :
All applicants must be based in or be willing to work from our New York City office. The
IRC NYC RAI
office is currently working in a hybrid environment (3 days in office and 2 remote). Classes take place online via Zoom and in-person at the IRC office or at partner locations in New York City.
