Liberty Education is the National Liberty Museum's distinctive model for learning - rooted in our exhibitions and grounded in the belief that liberty must be practiced, not just studied. It uses the ideas and tensions explored in our galleries as a catalyst for participation, inviting learners to ask hard questions, listen across differences, and practice liberty in public life. Position Summary The Liberty Educator will play a central role in developing and delivering Liberty Education Across Perspectives - LEAP - the National Liberty Museum's semester-long civic learning program for students in grades 4-8. Working closely with the Assistant Director of Liberty Education, this position supports participating teachers and schools, facilitates classroom and museum-based learning experiences, and helps develop curriculum and educational resources connected to the Museum's exhibitions. Through LEAP, students investigate the relationship between liberty and civic responsibility, then work in teams to identify a community issue, develop a response, and share their learning. The Liberty Educator helps make that process meaningful, age-appropriate, and engaging by connecting classroom inquiry, student voice, project-based learning, and the ideas explored in the Museum's galleries. The ideal candidate is adaptable, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic about working with teachers and students. They should be comfortable facilitating inquiry-driven learning, supporting school partnerships, and helping young people connect ideas to civic practice in respectful and nonpartisan ways.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and support the design of curriculum and educational resources connected to the Museum's exhibitions, in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Liberty Education.
- Support the planning and delivery of educational programs, including field trips, educator open houses, and teacher professional development, with a focus on LEAP and school-based audiences.
- Assist with administration and communications related to school partnerships, program resources, and educator outreach.
- Manage documentation, attendance tracking, and participant evaluations; prepare reports for management.
- Coordinate logistics for on-site school programs (staffing, run of show, supplies, and resources).
- Coordinate with exhibitions and public programs teams to align school programs with broader Museum initiatives.
- Lead tours for school groups and facilitate activities during public programs and events, as assigned.
- Maintain strong relationships with participating teachers and schools, including virtual or in-person classroom visits as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience teaching, facilitating, and developing learning experiences for students in formal and/or informal education settings.
- Demonstrated experience working with upper elementary and/or middle school students, preferably in grades 4-8.
- Experience writing curriculum, lesson plans, educational materials, or teacher-facing resources.
- Familiarity with K-12 learning standards, inquiry-led teaching, and project-based learning.
- Experience facilitating inquiry-based, object-based, discussion-based, or student-centered learning with young people.
- Ability to facilitate conversations about civic, historical, or community issues with students in age-appropriate, respectful, and nonpartisan ways.
- Experience supporting school partnerships, teacher training, or educator-facing programs.
- Strong written, verbal, and public speaking skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with teachers, students, colleagues, and school partners.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage details, deadlines, materials, schedules, and documentation across multiple programs or partners.
- Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with colleagues, teachers, students, and diverse audiences.
Preferred qualifications:
- Classroom teaching experience or experience supporting school-based programs.
- Demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary civic learning, student voice, and connecting classroom learning to public life.
- Familiarity with program evaluation, participant feedback, attendance tracking, or basic data reporting.
