Overview:
The ICA's Adult Programs and Interpretation Internship provides a qualified student the opportunity to engage with contemporary arts education for adult learners for a 9-month term (September 2026—May 2027). The Adult Programs and Interpretation Intern supports various programs highlighting artists andmunity voices, including the ICA's Gallery Talk program and programs such as Art-Making After Dark. With support from the Adult Audience Engagement Assistant Manager, the intern builds towards developing and implementing one program including, pitching an exhibition-related theme, conducting outreach and securing an artist partner, ordering materials, and facilitating the event with visitors. The intern works independently on research assignments relating to uing exhibitions and adult programming. The intern will also support the development and implementation of an interactive installation in the ICA's Poss Family Mediatheque. Under the direction of the ICA's Adult Audience Engagement Assistant Manager, the Adult Programs and Interpretation Intern will learn about museum operations, gain skills in adult programming, design and implementation of interpretive resources, and engage with diverse contemporary art audiences. The Adult Programs and Interpretation Intern contributes to a culture of collaboration,munity, and respect while centering the ICA'smitment to Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEAIB) in all areas of work.
WORKING AT THE ICA
All ICA employees are required to reside in Massachusetts and within amuting distance from our Seaport location as of their first day of work.
The ICA offers the flexibility of a hybrid schedule for employees who are eligible to work remotely (at manager discretion and subject to change). Due to the nature of the intern position, a consistent hybrid work week may not be possible.
Responsibilities:
With guidance from the Adult Audience Engagement Assistant Manager, coordinate and implement adult programs, including talks and art-making experiences.
Complete research assignments relating to uing exhibitions, adult programming, and museum interpretation.
Update the Education department wiki, an internal training resource, with relevant content on uing exhibitions
Advised by the Adult Audience Engagement Assistant Manager, intern will design, prepare, facilitate, and evaluate one program.
Support the Adult Audience Engagement Assistant Manager in the development and implementation of an interactive installation in the ICA's Poss Family Mediatheque including research, ordering materials, and activity testing.
With support from the Adult Audience Engagement Assistant Manager, intern will develop resources for Visitor Experience staff on how to maintain the Poss Family Mediatheque installation and engage with the activity.
Attend interdepartmental meetings, exhibit walkthroughs, and educator training sessions.
Commit to working onsite 2 days per week for the duration of the internship.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate candidates must be current third-year students/junior and above. Graduate students are wee to .
Knowledge of studio art media, materials, processes and ability to assist facilitation of lessons and workshops in visual arts to a range of audiences
Must possess strong research skills
Excellent interpersonalmunication skills (oral and written) and ability to speak confidently in public
Ability to work collaboratively or independently on projects
Interest in local Boston art scene, museum education, contemporary art, and/or and creative aging
Possess a desire to work with diverse learners
Solid experience with MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Power Point
Must be able to exchange accurate information with visitors, staff, departments, and vendors.
Spanish and/or Haitian Creole speaking ability, a plus
Experience with video editing, a plus
Thursday availability and occasional evening and weekend hours required
Physical Requirements:
Possess mobility to work in an office setting and use office equipment; move about throughout the museum.
Prolonged periods of remaining stationary working on aputer, standing and/or moving about in the office to access files, ers, etc.
Ability to lift up to 15 pounds, pushing and pulling, keyboarding and gripping
