Job Description

Job Summary:
As an important team member of the only non-profit organization in Oakland County, Michigan solely dedicated to lifting adult literacy and numeracy levels, the Adult Basic Education/GED Program Specialist will help recruit and manage a caseload of adult learners and volunteer tutors to help learners achieve high-school equivalency degrees, career readiness skills, or personal literacy and numeracy goals. This is a permanent part-time, year-round position that requires a valid secondary teaching credential. Student Support Functions Make outreach presentations, build referral partnerships to recruit learners in high-need cities of Oakland County Facilitate GED learner orientations Conduct goal-setting conversations & develop learning plans for new students who successfully completed 30-day trial period Support learner persistence and motivation Conduct regular learner check-ins Develop learner improvement plans Identify barriers to participation and connect resources Encourage transition to GED, employment, or workforce programs Program Development & Instructional Functions Train volunteer tutors Develop supplemental small-group instruction such as bootcamps w/instructors on an independent contract basis Coach tutors on learner engagement challenges Identify learner success stories Analyze data to assess program effectiveness trends & suggest continuous improvement activities Help improve learner retention strategies Supervise Adult Basic Education Program Coordinator Ideal Skill Set Valid secondary teaching credential Coaching/case management background Adult education experience Community outreach skills Relationship builder Trauma-informed communication Instructional or learner support experience Experience, comfort, and fluency with productivity tools. OLC uses Microsoft office productivity tools (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word), the Zoho customer relationship (CRM) database, online learning platforms, and AI tools for improved productivity. Hours/Benefits -22-25 hours/week
  • 75% of work hours at Pontiac location or representing OLC in the community; 25% can be remote. Occasional evening/Saturday mornings expected.
  • $22-$26/hr
