An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
: Bachelor's Degree One year related experience and/or training High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY
: Develops and implements a former Adult Education student success strategy with measurable outcomes Collects information, analyzes data and documents former Adult Education student's educational and career outcomes. Provides counseling regarding additional training opportunities and/or instructional program services available. Position may include day shift or evening shift, or both. Attendance is required at all regularly scheduled staff meetings and training events
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manages events and processes for outreach, tracking, re-engagement and transition. 2. Tracks former student achievement and performance and supports them in their next steps. 3. Promotes best practices in student retention and student success in achieving academic goals of instructors and staff. 4. Supports efforts toward aligning curriculum towards GED completion, college readiness, and job readiness. 5. Manages alumni transitional programs and work to build productive relationships with internal and external partners such as City of San Antonio, and Workforce Solutions. 6. Documents alumni outcomes in TEAMS (Texas Education Adults Management System). 7. Refers students for scholarships and financial assistance for testing. 8. Assists in negotiating, reviewing, and updating contracts and agreements with community partners. 9. Meets with key partnership personnel, provides annual statistics and reports, assists with logistical changes and improvement to programs. 10. Consults one-on-one with former students regarding GED testing plan, training opportunities and instructional/program services. 11. Attends staff meetings, in-service orientation, and completes all professional development as required by TEA. 12. Maintains confidentiality of information. 13. Occasionally required to drive personal vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks. 14. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge of adult student characteristics and special learning needs
  • Possess knowledge of Adult Education principles, practices and theories
  • Excellent command of English language both verbal and written.
  • Proficient with computer software programs (Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, etc.)
  • Proficient in
TEAMS:
ability to pull various reports and enter data accurately
  • Ability to keep organized records and documentation.
  • Ability to use and create Excel spreadsheets (advanced)
  • Knowledge of Remind App and other communication platforms.
  • Knowledge of testing tools: CASAS, Best Literacy, Best Plus 2.0
  • Ability to effectively work collaboratively, and with diverse and multicultural populations
  • Ability to motivate and encourage adult learners
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to learn assessment techniques and practices
