General Responsibilities:
The instructor teaches assigned course topics and keeps records of training classes as directed by the Student Relations Manager or Training Director. The instructor maintains the educational training Center's environment in a clean and orderly condition and completes and organizes all course records.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Teach specialty classes such as Dementia, Diabetes, and Mental Health. 2. Turn in completed class documents to the office in a timely fashion. 3. Evaluate and document student knowledge and skills competency. 4. Assist in the maintenance of records and completion for each student. 5. Cooperate with DSHS and the Health Department monitoring classroom instruction and course records. 6. Observe classroom and class equipment for safety and replacement needs, reporting needs to the director. 7. Report received concerns/complaints to the Training Director. 8. Follow curriculum outline when instructing and use varied teaching techniques for adult students, including, but not necessarily limited to, sharing subject matter, knowledge, PowerPoints, activities, demonstrations, and videos eliciting student participation and understanding. 9. Have students complete evaluation forms for each class taught. 10. Assist and have students work together to maintain cleanliness/neatness of training site after each day of classes. 11. Additional duties as requested by the Director and as necessary for a successful program.
Required Qualifications:
Either be a certified DSHS Instructor or meet qualifications to become one. Work with the director on training needs and course completion for all teaching topics. Submit application/get approval in a timely manner. Teach & follow all requirements in accordance with DSHS regulations. Hold a healthcare license in active standing as required for topics to be taught (Hold HCA or NAC). Have a minimum of 1 year's experience in a direct care position in an LTC Part-Time setting in the last 5 years (paid or unpaid) Provide a copy of a DSHS-approved Adult Education Certificate (or be willing to attend the online training class). No physical limitations that would prevent teaching students in hands-on skills practice of all skills required by HCA-Cs & NACs Ability to accommodate a part-time, flexible schedule including at least one Saturday a month, being able to fill in as needed for other instructors at any training center location if schedule allows. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Acceptance of people from various economic, social, and cultural backgrounds. Ability to work independently without direct supervision. Reliable and trustworthy, and excellent attendance record. Professional affect and appearance. Must not work for a competing organization in the same field. May not solicit students for any positions, outside interests, or for private paid lessons outside of Sunrise schedule
Preferred Additional Qualifications:
100 hours of adult teaching experience, preferably in topics of Basic Training or 40 hours of teaching Basic Training with an instructor already approved to teach Basic Training. Prior experience in multiple care settings in the healthcare industry 100 or more hours of experience teaching adults within the last five years in a classroom setting with documented practice in adult education theory and practice principles, including classroom facilitation skills and techniques, facilitating adult learning activities, working with adults with special training needs, and administering competency testing for both skills and written testing. Knowledge of adult education theory and practice principles, instructor facilitation techniques, facilitating learning activities for adults, administering competency testing, and an evaluation of the individual's teaching and competency testing skills by the course instructor. Experience in assessment and competency testing. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
Schedule:
Part Time:
As needed for full 8-hour class days and some mornings.
Compensation:
$25 - $35 per hour Wages are determined by applicable industry experience, education, and certifications/licensure
