SUMMARY STATEMENT
Instruct high school juniors and seniors in skills and knowledge leading to entry-level employment or further education in health occupations, specifically medical assisting. In depth instruction will include one session of two and one half hour of instruction per day in theory and clinical activities. The instructor will work closely with Cascadia Tech administrative staff and the program advisory committee to continually upgrade the program curriculum and skills competences (outcomes) needed by the students. The instructor will be integrally involved in both on and off-site student laboratory placements including hospitals, medical clinics, and long-term care facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manage and teach one section of, Medical Assisting depending on enrollment
Assume student supervisory responsibilities as assigned
Implement the Medical Assisting curriculum and evaluate daily instruction units to reflect current clinical methods and practices.
Promote and supervise student leadership (professional development) activities as an integral part of the curriculum.
Attend all Medical Assisting Advisory Committee Actively seek consultation and advice from the advisory committee about prevailing practices, equipment, and facilities necessary for maintaining an up-to-date competence (outcomes) and an up-to-date instructional program.
Evaluate student classroom and clinical experiences, maintain appropriate student records and report student progress to appropriate personnel.
Maintain a positive learning environment; safe and pleasant classroom atmosphere and effective classroom management and discipline procedures while maintaining good instructor/student communication and rapport.
Organize, manage, and appropriately maintain the instructional facility, equipment, and resources which will serve as a positive model to students and provide a safe working environment.
Work with related instructors in the sending high schools and at the community college to maintain program articulation, a good working relationship and a positive Skills Center image
Be an active team member of Cascadia Technical Academy's cooperative decision making process
Work in cooperation with Cascadia Tech administration and staff to positively promote Cascadia Tech, Medical Assisting, and all Academy programs for student recruitment.
Participate in in-service activities conducted by the Evergreen School District and the Director
Keep current professionally by taking related courses, maintaining involvement in professional organizations, and working in Medical Assisting occupation during summers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Hold a current WA State Medical Assisting (MA) Certificate
Minimum of three years of medical assisting experience
Experience working with medical assistants in a supervisory or instruction environment
Knowledge of the health careers profession
Must have regular, consistent attendance
Prefer prior teaching and/or supervisory experience
Ability to effectively present and teach medical assistant and health careers skills
Ability to work effectively as a member of an instructional team
Demonstrated ability in positive human relations
Demonstrated awareness, appreciation and respect of diversity among students and adults.
Demonstrated organizational ability
Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation, and be willing to actively participate in a team environment.
Experience and/or training or willingness to take course work to increase knowledge and use of the following instructional and management strategies to include: First Aid/CPR, Anti-Bias, Project Based Learning, Standards Based Grading, Restorative Justice, Equity and Trauma Informed Practices in Education, Anti-bias, multicultural education.
Qualifies for a Washington state Secondary Vocational Teaching Certificate
Qualifies for a Type II Driver's License
