Summary of Job Duties:
This non-tenure track, 9-month position supports the teaching mission in the Department of Food Science at the University of Arkansas. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, including, teaching courses, mentoring and advising undergraduate students, and supporting curriculum and programmatic needs such as maintaining Institute of Food Technologists(IFT) approval of the undergraduate program. The successful candidate's experience should compliment and enhance the existing food science curriculum and department strengths in educating students in foundational food science principles, food chemistry, food safety, food processing and engineering innovations, and food systems.
  • Teach courses as assigned by the department head
  • Mentor and Advise undergraduate students
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of core Food Science classes
  • Support organization and maintenance of teaching labs and equipment when needed
  • Facilitate undergraduate involvement in faculty research programs, internships and experiential learning activities
  • Contribute to IFT and RCA approval requirements for the undergraduate program
  • Co-advise the student club
  • Coach students to compete in competitions such as IFT Quiz bowl
  • Coordinate statewide Food Science & Dairy Science career development events with FFA.
  • Contribute to annual assessment of curriculum and coordinate when necessary
  • Contribute to planning events such as annual graduation and awards ceremony and coordinate when necessary
  • Contribute to student recruitment activities
  • Support recognition and awards processes for students, alumni, faculty, and staff
  • Perform other duties related to curriculum, instruction, and service as assigned by the Department Head.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
MS degree in food science or other closely related STEM field
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in food science or closely related STEM field Significant experience as instructor of record Experience mentoring undergraduate and/ or graduate students
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated record of effective interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work in inter‐ and trans‐disciplinary teams Commitment to enhance the existing food science teaching program Willingness to contribute to and participate in recruitment events
