Summer Camp Garden/ Outdoor Teacher 4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 7525 Min Tom Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37421 $16 an hour - Temporary, Part-time St. Nicholas School 2 reviews $16 an hour - Temporary, Part-time Job Summary We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative and dependable Summer Camp Gardening/ Outdoor Teacher to lead engaging outdoor learning experiences for children ages 3-12 during our summer camp program. This role combines hands-on gardening responsibilities with educational instruction, helping campers develop an appreciation for nature and sustainability. The Gardening Teacher will be responsible for maintaining the camp/school garden, planning age-appropriate lessons and activities and creating a fun, safe and interactive environment where children can learn through exploration.
Key Responsibilities:
Garden Maintenance & Care:
Water, weed, prune, and maintain garden beds and plants Assist with planting flowers, vegetables, herbs and other seasonal crops as they bloom Harvest produce and flowers as needed Maintain gardening tools, supplies and equipment Keep outdoor learning areas clean, organized and safe Teaching & Program Leadership Create and implement engaging, age-appropriate gardening lesson plans for children ages 3-12 Teach campers about plant life cycles, sustainability, composting, healthy eating, environmental stewardship, and gardening basics Lead hands-on activities such as planting seeds, harvesting vegetables, nature crafts, and garden science experiments Adapt lessons for different age groups and developmental levels Foster curiosity, teamwork, and responsibility among campers Camper Supervision & Safety Supervise children during gardening activities and outdoor lessons Ensure all safety procedures are followed when using gardening tools and materials
Qualifications:
Experience working with children ages 3-12 in educational, camp, childcare or recreational settings Knowledge of gardening, horticulture, agriculture, environmental education or related fields Strong classroom management and communication skills Ability to create fun, engaging lesson plans for various age groups Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions Background check is required Teaching certification or coursework in education, environmental science, agriculture or related field Experience leading youth gardening programs, camps or outdoor education activities is prefered CPR/First Aid certification is preferred
