Primary Purpose:
Provide students in grades 6-12 with instruction in the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Deliver hands-on, TEKS-aligned coursework in agricultural science, mechanics, animal science, plant science, agribusiness, and leadership. Prepare students for college, careers, and industry certification while overseeing supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs) and active participation in the FFA student organization.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate in Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources for grades 6-12 or legacy certifications such as: Agricultural Science and Technology 6-12 Agricultural Science 6-12 Trade and Industrial Education with appropriate work experience and certification in AFNR ESL Supplemental certification preferred (may be required based on student population) Must meet CTE requirements for teacher certification, including industry experience, if applicable
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of TEKS for Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) Proficiency in agricultural mechanics, animal and plant science, and leadership development Knowledge of FFA programs, SAE supervision, and contest participation Strong classroom management and hands-on instructional skills Ability to organize and manage lab spaces, greenhouses, and shop areas safely Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills Willingness to travel and work irregular hours for events, contests, and fairs
Experience:
At least one year of classroom teaching or industry-related experience preferred Experience supervising SAEs and/or coordinating FFA events highly desirable
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Program Teach courses aligned to the
AFNR TEKS
such as Principles of Agriculture, Livestock Production, Small Animal Management, Floral Design, Horticulture, Ag Mechanics, Agribusiness, and others as assigned. Deliver instruction through hands-on labs, classroom learning, and student projects. Integrate industry-standard tools, technology, and certifications (e.g., OSHA, welding, floral design certification) where applicable. Guide students in the development and implementation of Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects. Maintain lab/shop safety and cleanliness in accordance with state and district guidelines. Provide instruction in leadership development through FFA participation and classroom curriculum. FFA and Student Leadership Serve as advisor to the local FFA chapter, coordinating student membership, officer elections, and event participation. Train and accompany students in local, area, and state Career Development Events (CDE), Leadership Development Events (LDE), and Speaking Development Events (SDE). Oversee student projects for agricultural fairs and exhibitions; supervise student entries and attendance. Maintain records for FFA and program accountability, including local, state, and federal reports as required. Student Growth and Development Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback aligned with AFNR TEKS and program goals. Create a positive and inclusive learning environment to support all learners. Support students in setting personal goals related to career readiness and leadership development. Classroom and Program Management Maintain inventory of equipment, tools, supplies, and classroom/shop/lab spaces. Follow district and TEA guidelines for CTE program compliance and safety standards. Collaborate with other CTE teachers, campus staff, and administrators to strengthen the AFNR program. Communication Communicate effectively with students, parents, community members, and industry partners. Provide regular updates on program activities, project expectations, and event participation. Attend and participate in parent meetings, campus functions, and district initiatives. Professional Growth and Development Participate in ongoing professional development related to CTE, agriculture, instructional technology, and classroom management. Stay current with TEA guidelines, curriculum updates, and industry trends in agriculture and workforce development.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise students during class, SAE visits, FFA events, and off-campus activities May supervise assigned paraprofessionals or student aides

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, walking, and lifting. Work in classroom, lab/shop, outdoor, and field settings. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, agricultural equipment, animals, dust, and chemicals. Extended and irregular hours required for FFA events, fairs, and travel.
