Provide students with instructional experiences in Theatre Arts that promote creativity, performance skills, communication, collaboration, and artistic expression while supporting the development of the district's secondary theatre program. The Secondary Theatre Arts Teacher will provide instruction to students at both Cotulla High School and Newman Middle School and support student participation in theatre-related performances and UIL One-Act Play activities.Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university Valid Texas Teaching Certification in Theatre Arts preferred Secondary Fine Arts certification accepted with demonstrated theatre experience consideredSpecial Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of Theatre Arts curriculum and instruction Knowledge of UIL One-Act Play guidelines and procedures preferred Ability to instruct and manage students in classroom and performance environments Ability to organize productions, rehearsals, performances, and extracurricular activities Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to collaborate with campus administrators, staff, students, parents, and community members Ability to manage theatre-related materials, equipment, and program budgetsExperience:
At least one year of student teaching or approved internship Experience in theatre performance, production, or directing preferredMajor Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies 1. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements for Theatre Arts and provide written evidence of preparation as required. 2. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and instructional needs. 3. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. 4. Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of student needs and learning styles. 5. Conduct assessments of student learning and use results to guide instructional planning. 6. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curriculum as needed for students receiving special education services according to Individual Education Plans (IEPs). 7. Work collaboratively with district and campus staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. 8. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides, volunteers, and student helpers as assigned. 9. Use technology to strengthen the teaching and learning process. Theatre Program Responsibilities 10. Direct and supervise UIL One-Act Play productions and related theatre activities for assigned campuses. 11. Coordinate theatre performances, rehearsals, competitions, showcases, and Fine Arts events. 12. Teach foundational and advanced theatre skills including acting, stage presence, characterization, improvisation, script analysis, and technical theatre concepts. 13. Work closely with campus principals to establish, monitor, and maintain an annual theatre program budget. 14. Develop and maintain theatre inventory including costumes, props, scripts, stage materials, sound equipment, lighting equipment, and instructional resources. 15. Assist in promoting and growing student participation within the secondary theatre program. 16. Collaborate with district and campus staff regarding scheduling, performances, Fine Arts events, and extracurricular activities. 17. Provide instructional support and services at both Cotulla High School and Newman Middle School as assigned by the district. 18. Attend and supervise occasional evening rehearsals, performances, competitions, and student activities as required. Student Growth and Development 19. Help students analyze and improve study methods, performance techniques, and presentation skills. 20. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal evaluation methods. 21. Serve as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district. 22. Encourage student creativity, collaboration, confidence, and leadership development through participation in Theatre Arts activities. Classroom Management and Organization 23. Create a classroom and performance environment conducive to creativity, collaboration, student expression, and active participation. 24. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. 25. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, costumes, props, and facilities. 26. Assist in the selection of instructional materials, scripts, theatre equipment, and program resources. Communication 27. Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, teachers, and community members. 28. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. 29. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Professional Growth and Development 30. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. 31. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies. 32. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents. 33. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise assigned teacher aide(s), volunteers, and student assistants as assigned.Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, walking, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, theatre materials, props, costumes, stage equipment, and classroom equipment. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours associated with rehearsals, performances, competitions, and extracurricular activities may be required.Position Type:
