Description of Position:

The Diablo Valley College architecture program is seeking qualified applicants for our part-time hiring pool who are interested in teaching design, drawing and drafting, history, theory, and digital media classes in architecture. Applicants from a wide range of architectural disciplines and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Please indicate on your resume areas of interest that you would like to be considered for. Potential openings for teaching in future semesters may be available for our digital media classes focusing on a variety of software applications including Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchup, introductory CAD software such as Vectorworks and AutoCAD, Rhino and V-Ray.

Positions may become available for our general introductory course in architecture, as well as first and second-year design studio courses.

Applicants with a strong background in manual drafting and drawing are encouraged to apply should a future need arise for staffing in these areas.

Applicants with an interest in other areas such as history and theory, architectural practice and working drawings, energy, sustainability, and building technology are also encouraged to apply should future opportunities be available. Applicants should submit a resume and a brief portfolio of work with a cover letter expressing their interest in teaching and their preferred areas of teaching. Teaching experience is desirable but not required.

Engineering Duties and Responsibilities:

Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: 1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules; 2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking; 3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work; 4. meeting with students outside of class; 5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics; 6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas; 7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member; 8. maintaining accurate academic records; 9. performing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:

EDUCATION

Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience in the field of architecture in the field of architecture.

Desirable Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in architecture or in environmental design fields such as landscape design, urban planning, urban design, or other related disciplines.
