Job Description

Job Summary The Temporary Executive Architect will be assigned to the Architects Department of Mayo County Council. The role and function of the Architects Department is to assist the Local Authority in their delivery of a high-quality architectural service to a diverse client base and to work collectively with various departments within the local authority, other state agencies and the local community to enhance the attractiveness of the County as a place to live, work, visit, invest, study and enjoy. The Architects Department provides architectural, planning, urban design and conservation services on a cross-departmental basis. Over the years Mayo County Council has developed a significant in-house expertise in the areas of house design, sustainable building construction, urban design, public realm works, and architectural conservation. Central Capital Works Team:
Based in Castlebar with responsibility for the design, procurement and delivery of the Local Authority's new build housing programme and other capital construction projects through all stages, including conservation projects, these are delivered by our: In house Architectural team, as PSDP and Assigned Certifier. Through our management of procured External Architect led design teams. Architects Department - Municipal District Architects Teams x 4: Mayo County Council is subdivided into 4 administrative Municipal Districts (MD) consisting of the Ballina MD, Castlebar MD, Swinford Claremorris MD and Westport Belmullet MD. Each MD has a team pairing of an Architect and an Architectural Technologist. These teams deliver Architectural Services in house and through external consultants on a variety of capital works including public realm, and Town & Village design statements, locally within their MD's. The Temporary Executive Architect secured through this competition, may be appointed to any of the above Teams based through the county, depending on the vacancy location. Each Candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms: Hold a professional qualification in Architecture that is prescribed under the Building Control Act 2007, or a qualification in Architecture, that is equivalent to a qualification so prescribed in Section 14 of the Building Control Act 2007. Be eligible for registration as an Architect under the Building Control Act 2007 without requiring further assessment. Any appointment by the employing local authority will be subject to registration under the Act. Have at least four years' satisfactory experience of architectural work. Have experience in the design of buildings, the preparation of sketch plans, working drawings, details and specification. Have a satisfactory knowledge of public service organisation or the ability to acquire such knowledge. In the event that an offer of employment is made, the candidate will be required to submit all relevant Educational Qualifications to meet the requirements above. Non-Irish Qualifications must be accompanied by a determination from Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) to establish their comparability against the Irish National Framework of Qualifications, overseas qualifications must also be accompanied by a translation document.
