About this position We are looking for a motivated and highly qualified expert in penitentiary and security infrastructure design to support and advise the Social Infrastructure Group (GIS in Spanish) and the executing agencies of IDB-financed projects. As an expert in penitentiary and security infrastructure design, you will support the GIS team in reviewing terms of reference and infrastructure designs in this sector, and in advising GIS teams and executing agencies (EAs) on best practices for their implementation. You will work within the GIS, which is part of the Infrastructure and Energy Department. This team is responsible for supporting the development of social infrastructure projects across several Bank departments, including the Social Sector, Institutions for Development Sector, and the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Sector. What you'll do Provide advice to executing agencies on best practices for designing and implementing different types of penitentiary and security infrastructure projects, including police stations, courthouses, forensic laboratories, detention centers, and prisons. Advise on appropriate standards, international benchmarks, and quality criteria depending on the type of project and country context. Provide guidance on equipment, furnishings, and technologies suitable for projects, as well as their implications for spatial design and building systems. Support the review of Terms of Reference and bidding documents, as well as documents for the procurement of design and supervision firms, to ensure high-quality designs and construction outcomes related to this type of infrastructure. Support the review of designs prepared by the executing agencies, whether developed internally or by consulting firms. Prepare reports on penitentiary and security infrastructure as required. What you'll need
Education:
Master's degree in architecture or civil engineering. A diploma or postgraduate studies in penitentiary architecture is desirable.
Experience:
At least 8 years of progressive experience in the design or construction of penitentiary infrastructure in at least two countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Languages:
Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.
