The Art Teacher provides instructional lessons, activities and assessments based upon AZ standards to support students toward mastering high-school related art content. The position involves collaboration and coordination with the school office team and colleagues to support the Early College High School Model and incorporating AVID strategies where possible to school-wide priorities. Essential Functions 60%
  • Performs duties of an instructional team member, which includes developing and implementing a standard-based, student-centered, projected-based curriculum; develops and implements Arizona standards
  • based lesson plans to enhance the affective and cognitive development of students; works collaboratively with college staff in developing improved articulation between high school and college curricula and developing learning experiences; advocates, nurtures and sustains a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth; uses data to change teaching systematically and collaboratively; utilizes performance-based assessment strategies including student portfolios; facilitates the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of the Learning College philosophy; establishes partnerships with businesses and community agencies.

  • Establishes a cooperative partnership with parents and students; facilitates resolution of problems that might arise with students and parents; assesses student performance frequently and objectively; facilitates student led parent/teacher conferences; explicitly states each student's progress, both educationally and socially, through quarterly reports, phone calls to parents and weekly student meetings 10%•Performs advisor duties for students; ensures service learning opportunities and job internships for students; monitors community services hours.

  • Participates in ongoing professional development designed to improve student achievement; serves on high school committees; demonstrates an understanding of course sequencing/departmental requirements/graduation requirements, etc; supports and facilitates the inclusion of students with special needs; facilitates extracurricular and after school activities for students; performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution. Desired Qualifications A. One (1) or more years of experience working in an educational setting B. One (1) or more years of experience with Arizona State Standards or National Standards C. One (1) or more years of experience with research-based instructional teaching strategies D. One (1) or more years of experience working with a diverse population of students E. One (1) or more years of experience with and utilizing student assessment tools/software to enhance student success. F . Master's Degree in Art if preferred G.
