Teaching at Oliver Middle School Oliver Middle School teachers work with a team of diverse colleagues to develop rigorous curricula, deliver engaging lessons, and support all students in their academic, social, and emotional wellbeing. Art is a new position for us
  • specifically in this role we are looking for someone to utilize the MA art education frameworks to develop a course that is educational and engaging for all students in grades 5-8.
There is broad ability to adjust the course to student and teacher interest, with access to a variety of media including a kiln for pottery, with the ability to specialize more depending on the applicant. Lawrence Public Schools is a district that is committed to developing a strong arts pipeline for their high school arts academy, and as such provides extensive support for middle school arts programming. Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans in accordance with the school's curriculum and standards.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment for students.
  • Utilize effective teaching strategies to facilitate student understanding and engagement
  • Assess student progress and provide timely feedback on assignments and assessments.
  • Use behavior management techniques to promote a respectful and productive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support student success.
  • Provide academic advising and guidance to students regarding their educational goals.
  • Provide tutoring and mentoring to students who require additional support.
Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid teaching certification in 5-8 art instruction or relevant subject area, or willingness to work toward certification in MA; SEI endorsement
  • Experience teaching art at the elementary or middle level preferred
  • Knowledge of current educational trends, technology, and best practices in science education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations, including students with special education needs.

  • Current authorization to work in the United States
