GENERAL DESCRIPTION

DESCRIBING ROLE
): The Elementary Art Teacher is responsible for teaching art education to students in all elementary school grades and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of art through a variety of mediums. Helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of art through a variety of planned art experiences and performs other duties directly related to this job description.

Minimum BA in Art or Art Education Ability to work with students at all skill levels Strong general art skills Appropriate DESE teaching license Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to use technology effectively
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

LIMITED TO
): Duties of this job include, but are not limited to: Building a classroom culture in which students love art Teaches Elementary Art and supports schoolwide instructional focus according to Massachusetts Curriculum Standard Engaging students in the creative process and cultivating their talents, while deepening their knowledge and understanding of art, design, and art history; Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student Guides the learning process toward the achievement of established district curriculum goals, establishes and communicates clear objectives to the students for all lessons, units and projects. Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc Follows a Responsive Classroom with a code of conduct for the classroom which is consistent with established administrative policies and develops rules of classroom behavior which are enforced in a fair and just manner Evaluates students' academic and social growth; Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program Establishes a culture where diverse student voices are valued Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers Maintains professional competence through in-service Professional Development activities Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in fulfilling teacher evaluation procedures Supervises students in hallways, recess areas, and lunchroom during the school day Administers group standardized tests in accordance with state testing program Attend established traditional school sponsored activities (e.g., Open House). Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the students Other duties as needed
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, however there may be occasions for after school meetings/performance.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The teacher is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch and/or kneel. The teacher is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building. Vision and hearing correctable to within normal ranges. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
