Under the direct supervision of the FitCity Programs Supervisor, an Art Instructor will be responsible for planning, teaching and assisting participants in a variety of art classes. The instructor will encourage creativity, demonstrate safe and effective use of art materials, and foster a welcoming, supportive, and engaging learning environment to guide students in safe and effective uses of equipment, fostering a creative learning environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plans and teaches art classes for participants at varying skill levels. Provides instruction in drawing, painting, mixed media and other art techniques as applicable. Ensures classroom cleanliness, safety, and proper storage/ disposal of art materials proper use and care of art tools, supplies and equipment Demonstrates proper use and care of art tools, supplies, and equipment. Maintains inventory of supplies and reports needed items to supervisor/coordinator. Interacts courteously and respectfully with all patrons, staff, and volunteers. Encourages self expression while providing patient, supportive guidance to all participants. Assists with art exhibits, craft fares, showcases, or special events as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position. Must abide by all city policies and procedures.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
EducationExperience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience working as an instructor strongly preferred. Must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work as needs arrive including extra during special events. Team oriented, good communication skills and ability to work well with other employees. Requires a loving, compassionate person who is sensitive to the needs of young and older patrons
License and Certifications:
Valid Utah state driver's license Current CPR and First Aid certification required, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
Working ConditionsPhysical Demands:
Ability to stand for extended periods . Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 20 lbs regularly. Work is primarily in classroom or studio
