Required Qualifications include a Master's degree in Art Education, Art, Education, or a related field and a minimum of three years of experience as an art teacher in a PK-12 classroom. The ideal candidate has knowledge of PK-12 art curriculum, instructional methods, and assessment, along with experience mentoring beginning teachers. The course prepares undergraduate Art Education majors to become effective PK-12 art teachers, and the instructor both teaches the methods coursework and supervises candidates during their clinical placement. Topics covered include curriculum and lesson planning, instructional methods, classroom management, assessment, studio practice, and the development of a professional teaching portfolio. Supervision responsibilities include observing candidates as they teach in PK-12 classrooms, conducting individual conferences, and coordinating with cooperating teachers and placement sites.
