Spanish Teacher (TK-8th Grade) Crestmont Elementary School - 5.0 Richmond, CA Job Details Part-time $25 - $40 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Spanish Full Job Description
WHO WE ARE
Crestmont School is a nonprofit, nonsectarian co-operative school nestled in the scenic hills of Richmond, California. Founded in 1969, we've spent more than 50 years cultivating a learning community where children become critical thinkers, skillful collaborators, and courageous, change-making citizens. Our co-op structure is at the heart of everything we do. Teachers and families work side by side, sharing voice and responsibility for our school community. We believe education is most powerful when it is responsive, relational, and rooted in justice — and our curriculum reflects that belief at every grade level. At Crestmont, social justice and social emotional learning are not add-ons. They are woven into everything-from how we teach Spanish to how we resolve conflict in the classroom. We celebrate and honor the diverse cultures and perspectives of our community, and we're deeply committed to welcoming children, families, and faculty who reflect the rich diversity of the Bay Area. Our community also fosters self-awareness, empathy, resilience, and positive relationships, helping students thrive both academically and personally.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We're looking for a warm, passionate, and culturally engaged Spanish teacher to join our community and bring language learning to life across our TK-8th grade program. This is a role for someone who understands that language is culture — and that teaching Spanish is an opportunity to open children's hearts and minds to the world beyond their own experience. You'll work with students across a range of ages and abilities, adapting your approach to meet each learner where they are — whether through song, movement, storytelling, or hands-on play. You'll collaborate closely with classroom teachers, integrate social justice themes into your curriculum, and contribute to the vibrant, caring community that makes Crestmont special.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Teach Spanish to students across TK-8th grade, designing engaging, age-appropriate lessons that connect language to culture, community, and the wider world using our adopted curriculum as the foundation Integrate music, movement, and play into Spanish instruction — using songs, rhythm, and physical activity to build vocabulary, pronunciation, and a love of language, especially for our youngest learners Create a joyful, inclusive classroom environment where all students feel safe, seen, and encouraged to take risks as language learners Integrate Crestmont's social justice curriculum into Spanish instruction — exploring themes of fairness, identity, cultural pride, and equity through language and storytelling Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, learning styles, and language levels of students across grade levels — including students with learning differences Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to create meaningful cross-curricular connections between Spanish and core subjects Communicate openly and warmly with families in the spirit of our co-op community, sharing student progress and celebrating growth Participate in school-wide events, traditions, and community gatherings that are a beloved part of the Crestmont experience Bring curiosity, creativity, and a genuine love of language and culture to every interaction with students
WHO YOU ARE A
fluent or native Spanish speaker with strong command of the language and deep connection to Spanish-speaking cultures Passionate about working with children and genuinely excited by the range of teaching TK through 8th grade Committed to social justice, equity, and inclusive education — and able to bring those values into the classroom authentically A skilled communicator and collaborator who thrives in a community-driven, co-operative environment Flexible, resourceful, and comfortable adapting your approach to meet the needs of individual learners Comfortable and confident working with children who have learning differences, with the patience to find creative pathways — including music and movement — that help every student access the language Someone who brings their whole self to their work — with warmth, humor, and genuine care for each child
