General Education Contract Mentor Job Description- Santa Clara County ( Primarily in East San Jose ) The Santa Cruz/Silicon Valley New Teacher Project (SC/SVNTP) is now accepting applications for contract mentors for the 2026-27 school year. These stipend employees , mentor a small number of Induction teachers. We are interested in candidates at the elementary and secondary levels. Qualifications
  • Successful experience teaching in a local school district with a diverse student population
  • Minimum of five years of classroom teaching experience
  • Valid California teaching credential
  • Experience in the following areas preferred: ○ Teaching Multilingual Students ○ Supporting neurodiverse students ○ California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) ○ Adult Learning Theory ○ Culturally Responsive Pedagogy ○ Use of technology to personalize and advance student learning Mentor Roles and Responsibilities To support teachers in clearing their
California Preliminary Credential, SC/SVNTP Contract Mentors:
  • Meet teachers in person weekly and observe a minimum of twice a month
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with a small caseload of teachers
  • Support teachers' day-to-day needs, such as classroom management, parent communication, development of curriculum, and standards-based units/lessons
  • Utilize formative assessment tools and processes to support teacher inquiry and advancement of classroom practice
  • Participate in 2.5 days of initial Mentor Professional Development and ongoing Mentor Forums twice a month to develop mentoring skills
  • Maintain consistent communication with site administrators
  • Work non-regular hours at times and a significant amount of driving (personal auto required with valid auto insurance)
  • Must be comfortable with the use of technology to support teachers (e.g. Google Drive and web- based forms)
