Job Description

Elementary ESOL Teacher Position Posting Stratford Public Schools is seeking a qualified and committed Elementary ESOL Teacher to support multilingual learners in grades K-6. The ESOL teacher will provide English language development instruction, collaborate with classroom teachers, and support students' academic, linguistic, and social-emotional growth. The Elementary ESOL Teacher will work with students at varying English proficiency levels, including newcomers and developing multilingual learners. The teacher will use culturally and linguistically responsive instructional practices to help students build listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while accessing grade-level curriculum. Primary Responsibilities Provide direct English language development instruction to multilingual learners in small-group, push-in, and/or pull-out settings. Use the Connecticut English Language Proficiency Standards to plan instruction, monitor progress, and support student language growth. Collaborate with classroom teachers to scaffold content instruction and support multilingual learners' participation in core academic learning. Use student data, including LAS Links results, classroom performance, observations, and formative assessments, to inform instruction. Support newcomer students with foundational English language development, school routines, academic vocabulary, and classroom integration. Communicate with families in culturally responsive ways and support family engagement. Participate in school-based teams, including
SRBI/MTSS
meetings, PPTs, data teams, and collaborative planning meetings as appropriate. Maintain accurate documentation related to ESOL services, student progress, and compliance requirements. Support a welcoming, inclusive school environment that values students' home languages, cultures, and identities. Qualifications Valid Connecticut TESOL certification required. Experience teaching multilingual learners at the elementary level preferred. Knowledge of the Connecticut English Language Proficiency Standards preferred. Experience with sheltered instruction, language objectives, scaffolding, translanguaging, and culturally responsive pedagogy preferred. Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills required. Bilingual skills are preferred but not required. Preferred Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is student-centered, collaborative, flexible, and committed to equity for multilingual learners. The candidate should understand how to support English language development while honoring students' full linguistic repertoires and helping them access rigorous grade-level instruction.
