The Spanish Teacher is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive, age-appropriate World Language program. This role requires a "bridge-builder" who can help students transition from the playful, immersive foundations of Lower School to the Middle School curriculum. To implement a flexible learning Spanish program with a highly nurturing and interactive classroom environment. To establish effective rapport with students. To motivate students to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide an excellent foundation. To provide innovative, student-centered learning initiatives that build 21st-century skills. To establish effective relationships and communications with parents and other staff members. To support and further the school's Episcopal identity as well as be involved in the Christian education and spiritual formation of the students.Responsibilities:
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:Curriculum & Instruction:
Develop and deliver engaging lessons that prioritize the five goal areas of theWorld-Readiness Standards:
Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities.Differentiated Learning:
Tailor instruction to meet the needs of a diverse range of learners, including heritage speakers and those new to the language.Cultural Competency:
Integrate the study of diverse Hispanic and Latinx cultures into the curriculum through music, art, history, and service learning.Classroom Environment:
Maintain a joyful, inclusive, and disciplined classroom atmosphere rooted in the Episcopal tradition of "Respect for the Dignity of Every Human Being."Technology Integration:
Utilize digital tools (e.g., Seesaw, Blackbaud, Google Classroom, language apps) to enhance student engagement and provide authentic linguistic feedback.Community Engagement:
Participate in faculty meetings, a Middle School advisory group (CREW), and contribute to school-wide events such as chapel services and cultural festivals. Teaches Spanish two days a week to 1st-8th grade students in a classroom, plus other appropriate learning activities outside the classroom. Includes experiential learning, project-based learning, problem-based learning, and integrated learning opportunities with other subject area disciplines related to each unit to provide authentic language experiences. Relates content in the Spanish curriculum to what is being taught in the core subject areas (English language arts, social studies, science, math, art, music, physical education, computer/ tech ed) to activate prior knowledge. Create and submit lesson plans for student learning experiences. Establishes and maintains high standards of student behavior needed to achieve a highly effective and functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate written and electronic records, and prepares progress reports. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities. Participates in informal and formal evaluations conducted by an administrator. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day. Serves as a proctor during group standardized testing in accordance with the school's testing program. Participates in curriculum development programs as required. Participates in faculty and school committees and serves as a club advisor.Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in education or a related subject from an accredited university/college is required Professional teaching certificate Minimum 2-3 years of full-time teaching experience preferred Gifted and Talented Endorsement preferred ESOL Endorsement preferredBilingual:
