Job Summary The Georgia Department of Education, Division of State Schools, is seeking a qualified and dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher to provide direct instruction to elementary and middle school students at the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf. The ASL Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-based instruction that promotes language development, communication competence, literacy, and academic success for deaf and hard of hearing students. The ASL Teacher works collaboratively with classroom teachers, related service providers, and families to support students' language growth and educational achievement while fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Description of Duties Plan and deliver daily ASL instruction to elementary and middle school students. Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with state standards and school curriculum. Differentiate instruction to address diverse language abilities, learning styles, and educational needs. Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of language growth and academic performance. Utilize formal and informal assessments to guide instruction and monitor student achievement. Collaborate with classroom teachers to support the integration of ASL and language development across academic settings. Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute information regarding student language development and educational progress. Create a positive classroom environment that promotes student engagement, communication, and self-confidence. Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress and classroom activities. Participate in professional learning opportunities, staff meetings, and school improvement initiatives. Support schoolwide programs, activities, and events that promote Deaf culture, language development, and student success. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess or be eligible to obtain Georgia Teacher Certification in the area of Deaf/Hard of Hearing students

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following: Georgia Teacher Certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education and/or additional elementary or middle grades certification. Three years of experience teaching deaf and hard of hearing students. Experience teaching American Sign Language and language development to children. Knowledge of bilingual ASL/English instructional practices. Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support student achievement. ASL proficiency at 3+ or above as measured by the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI). Salary/Benefits Paid on the Georgia Teacher Salary Schedule based on teaching certificate and creditable years of experience. This is a 10-month position paid on a 12-month basis.
