Job Description

TITLE:
SECONDARY SPANISH TEACHER JOB SUMMARY
To provide a secondary world language education program that develops students' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish while fostering an understanding and appreciation of Hispanic cultures. The teacher will promote communication skills, cultural awareness, critical thinking, and global citizenship through engaging, standards-based instruction that prepares students for college, career, and lifelong learning.
QUALIFICATIONS
Idaho teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement in Spanish Strong background in world language instruction and second language acquisition Demonstrated knowledge of Spanish language, grammar, vocabulary, and Hispanic cultures Knowledge of curriculum development and Idaho Content Standards Ability to integrate technology into instruction Ability to establish and maintain a positive and structured learning environment Ability to motivate students to develop proficiency in a second language Ability to build positive relationships with students Works well with students, staff, parents, and the public Strong organizational skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work within timelines and deadlines Maintain confidentiality of staff and students
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TO
: Building Principal
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction Prepare for assigned classes and instructional periods Design lessons that are engaging, standards-based, and aligned to language proficiency goals Deliver instruction in Spanish and English as appropriate to support student learning Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations Develop students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Spanish Promote authentic communication through meaningful language experiences Analyze and use student data to guide instructional decisions Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and other plans Align instruction with state standards and district curriculum Develop assessments that measure language proficiency and student growth Prepare students for district, state, and advanced language assessments as appropriate Effectively manage instructional time Incorporate cultural learning experiences that promote global awareness and appreciation of diverse perspectives Other Duties to Students Encourage students to achieve their highest academic and personal potential Establish and communicate clear expectations for behavior and classroom procedures Maintain open communication with students and families regarding progress Be available for student and parent communication outside the instructional day under reasonable terms Ensure a safe and supportive classroom environment Promote respect for cultural diversity and global perspectives Encourage student participation in language and cultural enrichment opportunities Secondary School Responsibilities Support students in developing communication skills that prepare them for college, career, and community engagement Promote student responsibility, organization, and independence Foster engagement through relevant, real-world language and cultural experiences Collaborate with grade-level and content-area teams Support interdisciplinary learning and cross-curricular connections when applicable Promote participation in advanced opportunities, dual credit, or language proficiency recognition programs when available Professional Contacts and Activities Attend and participate in faculty, team, and department meetings Attend IEP and student support meetings as needed Collaborate with colleagues to support student success Communicate effectively with administration regarding needs and concerns Provide requested information in a timely manner Collaborate with world language educators and professional organizations to enhance instructional practices Other Uphold and enforce school and district policies Maintain accurate records in compliance with federal and state requirements Complete data entry and reporting responsibilities in a timely manner Participate in ongoing professional development Adhere to the Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession Represent the district in a positive and professional manner Follow district procedures and chain of command Perform other duties as assigned
EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the building principal in conformance with district policy and

By contract as determined by the Board of Trustees in accordance with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy. NOTE All certificated and non-certificated employees and other individuals are required to undergo a criminal history check and submit to fingerprinting. Any applicant convicted of any of the felony crimes enumerated in Section 33-1208, Idaho Code may not be hired, and any applicant convicted of any felony offense listed in Section 33-1208(2), Idaho Code shall not be hired.
