Job Description:
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The ESOL Instructor is a position funded under a federal grant. This position reports to the ABE and ESOL Program Coordinator and is responsible for coordination, administration, and educational leadership as part of the Adult Basic Education Program.
Duties include the following:
Develop and deliver engaging, rigorous, standards-aligned ESOL lessons tailored to adult learners' needs and proficiency levels. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation, promotes language acquisition, and supports student leadership. Assess students' English language proficiency through formal and information methods and use data to drive instructional decisions. Provide constructive feedback and support to students to facilitate language development and academic progress. Use a variety of teaching methods, materials, and technology to engage students and enhance their learning including applicable Learning Management Systems. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student learning. Attend professional development workshops in order to stay up to date on the latest teaching methods and technologies and maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades and progress.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of appropriate experience, in postsecondary education. Preferred TABE E, Best Plus certified or ability to complete certification upon hire. Previous experience in ESOL program, academic advising, student services, and enrollment services. Experience in teaching ESOL courses Ability to engage diverse students. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a part of the team. Demonstrated experience in working effectively with low income, underserved adult learners and high school dropout students. Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills High level of customer service and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse group of clients at all levels. Ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines Attend all mandatory DESE meetings. Attend professional development workshops and conferences. Expect to meet all required DESE professional development hours outlined in individual professional development plan.

framework, cultural responsiveness, to promote equity and to differentiate for a diverse population of ESOLs including students with a diagnosed disability or barriers to learning. Ability to lead and conduct classroom courses and/or workshops Ability to use technology in the classroom including applicable college-wide learning management systems Online teaching experience Ability to utilize a variety of teaching methods to engage all student
Essential Functions:
Employ a variety of teaching methods to engage all students. Use DESE and Program curricula for ESL classes attend weekly department meetings with the
ABE/ESOL
team to examine formative assessments and collaborate with other ESOL instructor peers Plan effective ESOL units of study and lessons that align with the Massachusetts State Frameworks Demonstrate cultural proficiency and use of effective and culturally and linguistically relevant instructional practices Plan and participate in data collection and analysis to identify target areas of improvements. Collaborate and co-plan with other instructors to provide the highest quality instruction and support for ESOL Learners Proctor TABE E assessments. Use all available technology and virtual curricula to create engaging lessons and support for all students. Communicate with students on a regular basis using culturally responsive strategies that promote two-way conversations. Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development that is relevant to the challenges of ESOL students to close opportunity gaps. Collaborate with other college team members to refer students who are in need of social or community support Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events which may be assigned by the
ABE/ESOL
Program Coordinator or the VP of the Workforce, Economic and Institutional Development. Prepare and submit lesson plans on time. Participate in curriculum development work Work assigned schedule reliably and on time. New hires are required to attend the 15-hour DESE new teacher training. Serve as a backup instructor by teaching classes other than regularly assigned classes when requested and operationally necessary. Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in mandatory training/coursework; including but not limited to: Title IX and Sexual Misconduct Sexual Harassment and Non-Discrimination Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting FERPA Municipal Ethics Law Assignment Travel for both Quincy and Plymouth Campus as well as other local travel may be required.
