MSD,\r\nFrederick Campus, 101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21705\r\n Main Purpose of Job To teach American Sign Language (ASL) class (as a primary language, not as a second language) to deaf and hard of hearing 8th - high school students. Provide ASL Assessment as needed to K-12 students.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
Teach ASL to students to include understanding of ASL\r\nlinguistics such as handshape, grammar and other parameters, Deaf Culture, Deaf\r\nHistory, and ASL/Deaf Literature.\r\n�\r\nImplement ASL Standards as a part of daily classroom\r\ninstruction and school-wide programming and ensure that the ASL Standards are\r\naligned with National ASL Standards.\r\n�\r\nDevelop and prepare lesson plans, create curriculum maps, reports,\r\nand keep records of student progress; ascertain learning needs of students and\r\nestablish evaluation techniques for assessment of progress.\r\n�\r\nCollaborate with classroom teachers and ASL specialists in\r\ndevelopment of IEP goals and objectives, as well as providing some services and\r\ntracking goals. Provide ASL assessments upon request.\r\n�\r\nProvide leadership and expertise in the area of ASL\r\ninstruction; provide instruction in digital/media skills relevant to ASL\r\ninstruction such as but not limited to digital cameras and tablets, including\r\nvideo-taping and video-editing software.\r\n�\r\nCoordinate school-wide events relevant to ASL/Deaf Culture\r\nand Deaf History.\r\n�\r\nConduct school-wide training on use of ASL Standards and\r\nalignment of ASL Standards with state common core standards.\r\n�\r\nPractice bilingual education and concepts with\r\nall students.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
\r\nBachelor's degree required Maryland State Department of Education certification\r\nas ASL teacher or the ability to obtain such certification soon after hire is\r\nrequired.\r\n�\r\nFluency in ASL and written English; knowledge of\r\nthe Deaf Community and the ability to teach or work with students of different\r\neducational backgrounds and additional disabilities is required.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's\r\nDegree in ASL Education or equivalent; experience as a classroom teacher or ASL\r\nas a primary language teacher.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
