Job Description

For over 27 years, SWAN has served the City of New York by creating one of its largest most academically enriching Chinese immersion programs. We believe that students with a wide range of cultural experiences and linguistic abilities are uniquely positioned to assume leadership positions in different contexts. Global citizens in an increasingly competitive and demanding international environment will be charting new courses across a wide range of industries. We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Chinese Language Teacher for ages 5 - 10. This is a summer teaching position with a start date from 6/29/26 to 8/14/26 (candidate can be considered for continuation in the Fall), teaching schedule is from 8:15am to 5:15pm, 40 hours.
Duties and Responsibility:
Develop and design Chinese language and culture lesson plan and instructional materials. Teach Chinese language and culture to students in a classroom. Employ a variety of instructional strategies that are based on the needs of students to motivate them in learning Chinese language and culture and to help them meet the learning goals at each grade level. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare student report cards. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and cooperate with parents to resolve students' behavioral and learning problems. Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays and bulletin boards. Maintain professional competence through in-service professional growth activities. Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the afterschool time. Participates cooperatively with the Educational Director administrator for performance evaluation. Serve as mentors and role models to the students. Direct and supervise the teaching assistant. Work with Chinese tutors to prepare and implement remedial sessions for the students who require extra assistance. Enforce program administration policies.
Qualifications:
Must pass full background check includes fingerprinting. Must be fluent in speaking and writing Chinese. Have college or equivalent education. High energy, motivation, and skills needed to work with children. Have experiences in working with children under the age of 13 in an educational program. Have willingness to accept guidance and supervision and a sense of patience and self-control.

$24.00 - $38.00 per hour Expected hours: 40 per week
