Who We Are:
The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking an English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) Teacher for Fulton Elementary School (K-6) during the 2026-2027 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio. Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the YouMedia Center, which is a digital learning lab offering students activities such as 3-D printing, graphic design, and videography. We are Wildcats! As a ESOL Teacher you are required to: Valid teaching license issued by the Ohio Department of Education that allows for teaching in a core content subject matter TESOL certified or currently enrolled in a certification program to complete by beginning of school year Outstanding personal/interpersonal skills Sensitivity to the developmental stages of children, sensitivity to second language development/acquisition and cultural awareness Openness towards parent communication Experience with technology in facilitating instruction Willingness to be flexible in terms of teaching assignment within the school district
Preferred Qualifications:
1-3 years teaching experience Experience with English Language Learners Bilingual (Spanish, Haitian Creole, French with English) As a ESOL Teacher you will: Establish lesson plans and implement curriculum based on Ohio's English Language Proficiency Standards. Provide effective instruction to ELL students in developing English proficiency in the four communication domains. Demonstrate flexible teaching: immersion/push-in, whole-group, small group, individual student, collaborative teaching, etc. Monitor ELs progress in English (reading, writing, listening and speaking), content-area classwork, attendance, and general school behavior. Participates in the assessments of language proficiency tests for ELs. Prepare and maintain documentation required for state documentation for ELs. Show knowledge of a wide range of academic scaffolds and accommodations and use of those within the content-area and ESOL classroom. Collaborate with content-area teachers to support ELs' academic success. Knowledge of collaboration and relationship-building skills to support ELL student learning within the inclusive and independent classroom. Promote collaboration and team-building. Builds rapport with staff and community. Assess the accomplishments of the EL on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. Knowledge of the RTI process and seeks support of appropriate specialists when need arises. Provide support to ELLs with disabilities. Meet with, facilitates, and documents communication with parents. Provide technical assistance and generalized support to content-area teachers regarding ELs. Provide training and assistance to buildings and individual teachers to ensure appropriate identification / support of ELs. Attend all staff meetings, team meetings, trainings and professional development as required. Implement district approved curricular resources, electronic/print, in the teaching and assessment activities of the classes and with individual students Ability to collect and analyze student data. Ability to implement effective classroom management strategies. Perform other duties as assigned (The ESOL teachers will work closely with content teachers, coaches, and other educational staff to collaborate and support teaching methodologies within the inclusion/push-in model)
What We Offer:
As a contracted employee, Teacher work 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day. Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education. Contracted employees receive competitive benefits. All employees receive professional development The Springfield Education Association and the Board of Education are currently working on a new professional agreement. While that is in the works, please refer to the current agreement as to pay and benefits that are in place for the 2025-26 school year.
