ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
As a classroom teacher at Central Catholic High School, you are called to be both an educator and a witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You are responsible for fostering each student's intellectual, spiritual, moral, and personal development in a faith-filled, academically rigorous environment. I. Catholic Mission & Formation Serve as a role model and active witness to the Catholic Church's teachings and the Gospel's values. Create a classroom culture rooted in faith, integrity, and respect for the dignity of every student. Begin each class with prayer and integrate moments of reflection into the classroom routine. Infuse character and virtue education into instruction, promoting the development of Christian values. Support school-wide efforts to cultivate a welcoming, inclusive, and mission-driven environment. II. Instructional Planning & Delivery Develop daily lesson plans that reflect academic standards, essential questions, and clear learning objectives. Use a variety of instructional strategies and assessments to support diverse learners. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students, creating an inclusive environment that fosters intellectual diversity and student engagement. Apply culturally responsive teaching practices to promote equity and respect for all students. Encourage critical thinking, creativity, and the expression of original ideas through student-centered learning. Maintain classroom discipline and establish routines that create a productive and respectful learning environment. III. Spanish Instruction Teach five Spanish language courses across varying levels Deliver instruction aligned with the Central Catholic-approved curriculum and the standards set by the Archdiocese of Portland and national language frameworks such as the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). Design and revise curriculum (scope and sequence) to ensure alignment with current best practices in second language acquisition, cultural literacy, and communication proficiency. Develop students' skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, with a focus on real-world communication and fluency. Integrate authentic cultural materials and practices to promote global awareness, intercultural understanding, and respect for diverse traditions and perspectives. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including immersion techniques, communicative activities, and technology-based tools to enhance language learning. Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress in linguistic proficiency, cultural competence, and interpersonal communication. Foster a classroom environment that supports risk-taking, celebrates linguistic diversity, and encourages student engagement in the target language. IV. Technology Integration Fully utilize Canvas as the learning management system to post assignments, grades, and resources; maintain accurate and timely updates weekly. Effectively integrate one-to-one technology (e.g., Microsoft Surface Pro) into daily instruction to enhance student learning. Attend professional development focused on educational technology and instructional tools to enhance classroom effectiveness. V. Communication & Collaboration Maintain regular and ongoing communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic challenges. Collaborate with colleagues across departments to support student achievement and participate in interdisciplinary learning when appropriate. Attend all required faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and parent-teacher conferences as assigned. Maintain professional growth and competence through active participation in internal and external development opportunities. VI. Student Supervision & School Engagement Supervise students during assigned duties, including student activities, assemblies, liturgies, and other school events. Supervise students outside of classroom hours as required by course curriculum or school schedule. Support extracurricular programs and school-wide events as part of the broader educational mission. Maintain an organized, clean, and resource-ready classroom space, including tracking classroom inventory.
